2006 Riesling Reserve VQA .750mL
2006 Riesling Reserve

VQA Niagara on the Lake

This dry, white wine exhibits beautiful aromas of lime, grapefruit and orange blossom with just a hint of pineapple. On the palate, the acidity is balanced by the body with beautiful flavours of spice, orange and pineapple leading through to a lingering finish. This wine is ideal with lemon chicken, roasted turkey, white fish, shellfish, crisp summer salads and cream-based dishes. Also serve as an aperitif. While this wine is drinking well now, it will also age for up to 5 years. Serve chilled.

The Accolades
“This is one of three Rieslings produced in the first vintage of Cattail Creek, a family-owned and –operated winery in the Four Mile Creek sub-appellation of Niagara-on-the-Lake. As you would expect, the Reserve shows the most complexity and interest in the glass; however, all three Rieslings showcase the hands-off style of winemaker Tatjana Cuk. They all possess charming purity and freshness. The reserve bottling is a mix of three Riesling clones and a blend of young and old vine fruit (nearly half comes from 30-year-old vines), which builds complexity and weight in the wine. Its core of honeyed spice and pineapple flavours is contrasted by lively lime and grapefruit notes.” Christopher Waters, Vines, March/April 2008

“Smokey minerals, honey, lime and grapefruit come together in this light to medium offering. The minerals resonate on the tongue. Drink now.” – Evan Saviolidis, Tidings, February/March 2008

“Finally, the Reserve is comprised of three clones made mainly from the old vines and the Alsatian. Floral, peach and lemon aromas are followed by minerals, limestone, slate and wet stone … the fruit is orange blossom with a surprising spicy peppery like finish. It flows smoothly through the mouth then hits the throat with a crisp, spicy, citrus end. You can just feel the petrol notes getting ready to develop here … lie this one down to enjoy in a few years … better yet, lie them all down and see what happens.” - Michael Pinkus, Ontario Wine Review, October 30, 2007 “This first vintage from a new winery on the Dyck family vineyards is a flagship Riesling from old vines, some planted in 1976. The vine age and warmer microclimate have a produced a dense, bone-dry Riesling. Excellent length.” David Lawrason, Toronto Life, March 2008

“Half old 30-year-old vines, half 15 year old Alsatian clones, balance is young Weiss cone for acidity. The Reserve shows more complexity and minerality than the dry, and is less immediately fruit on the nose. The palate offers a fullish, rich texture with fine extract and depth, vibrant, balancing acidity and a long perfumed finish with interesting fennel nuances. Score – 89.” John Szabo, www.WineAccess.com, December 2008
